NFL combine

Postby fireplug » Mon Feb 24, 2014 9:24 am

Did anyone watch any of the combine over the weekend? I've never watched it before, but I was waiting on the race rainout, so
I was flipping back and forth. Was watching some of the 40 yard dash times. I didn't realize how slow some of the star running backs were.
I was playing high school with guys that ran faster than some of these fellas that are going pro. Granted, 4.6 is not slow, but it's slower than
I figured they would be. I saw my man Ladarius Perkins ran a 4.4 Now that's more what I thought that the avg would be. I guess these bigger
guys 225lb + can't get all that weight moving.

Also saw a headline that Johhny Footbal ran a 4.5 in his 40 yard dash. That helps his prospects some I'm sure.

I watched a few minutes this morning and the defensive ends and some d line were running. Those boys can roll for being that big. Clowney ran a 4.5 and he weighs nearly 270. Even the guys up around 290 were running 4.7 times. That's hard to fathom but I guess if the QB and RB is running at that speed then the D Lineman has got to be able to at least be close in speed to catch em. Just hard to imagine that much bulk moving that fast.

You make a good point but you left out the 4 important words that should have been added at the end of your last sentence....... " and running over you "

Huge difference between high school kids being clocked by their assistant coach (with a walmart stop clock in one hand and a corn dog in the other), and electronic timed 40 yard runs there. Probably 85% of the better high school running backs in the state will tell you they run a 4.4something. Very few really do.

Jeremy Hill for example weighed in around 230, ran a laser timed 4.6 which doesn't sound that impressive but that size combined with vision and agility is phenomenal. I'm also willing to bet that a lot of these 4.3, 4.4 timed high school athletes are hand timed.

Wait a minute!! So you're tellin me my 4.7sec 40 time that I ran back in highschool may be flawed??!!
There's no doubt the electronic timed are way more accurate than some slapdick receivers coach.

This to infinity! I always just shake my head when people say they ran a 4.4 or know a kid that does. Laser times and hand times is about .4 seconds different from my experience. I have gotten 4.7 hand timed and usually around 5 flat laser and was faster than 99% of the people I played against and with in high school. Basically if I hear 4.4 I just assume 4.8 in my head.
