Gotta admit, Ronnie is pretty talented planting birds for upland. Cory Botts is real good at it also.

Are ya'll gonna use fresh killed mallard ducks in all stakes ?
Re: West MS HRC Mahannah Test
More mallards will be killed at Mahanna test day than all duck season.Jay Dufour wrote:Are ya'll gonna use fresh killed mallard ducks in all stakes ?

Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Re: West MS HRC Mahannah Test
all stakes in reg test will be Fresh killed mallards like always...the birds are right at 52 weeks old just like we had last yr...be floating high on the water....the Upland will be Quail ..according to the MDWFP you can only use pen raised Quail that have to be banded or marked ...chukars cant be used because they are not a native bird of MS...We were hoping to be able to do the upland on the WMA but the dept said no last week after all the planning and being told we could...but no biggie the upland will be north of the Mahannah Entrance at the north end of Floweree Rd across Hwy 61 on some private land i secured last Fri

Just hung up with MDWFP. As long as you aren’t training on state or federal land, the use on non-native game birds (i.e. chukar or pheasants) is permissible as long as you have taken the following steps:
1- Birds are identified as being pen raised by either banding, clipping a toe, or painting a leg
2- You must have a valid health certificate available for inspection

Even better - office guys says its not a good idea so we shouldn't do it. Hold on and I'll transfer you to Enforcement.msbigdawg1234 wrote:Ok ...I was just stating what the LEO told me...they just cked a group of guys two weeks ago ...thats why they were telling me only quail cougoodld be used...but thats bout par ...one says one thing one says another...and we wonder ...lol
Enforcement says yes but the birds have to meet the above criteria. Ends the conversation with they ain't going to live more than 3 days in the wild anyway. Have a good time.
