Just make sure the bucket has some holes in the bottom.

Try the Kratky method. Buddy started it last year NAND had huge success. I'm going to try it this year

Don't put too many holes in the bottom. 3-1/4 inch holes are enough. Speaking from experience. You will have to water just about every day when it gets hot. If you can put them in the ground I would suggest doing so. It's much easier that way.

Put your holes in the side 3 or 4 inches from the bottom. This way you won't over water the plant but it will retain some water in the soil. If you have a gin close, go get your dirt from the trash pile behind it. Preferably the trash that is two years old that has rotted. I use 30 gal drums cut in half.

I tried with Better Boys a couple of times in the 15-25gal whatever size they are mineral lick buckets and never did real good with it for some reason..... Or no where near as good as I can do with em in the ground lets put it that way.... If you just looking for a mater sandwich and a couple to fry every week go for it..... You looking to get enough to put up and do something like that with I'd look more at putting them in the grown...
