Millennium ladder FAIL!!!!

Postby lilwhitelie » Wed Dec 04, 2013 8:30 pm

Bought a new stick ladder and when I attached the last section and stepped on the last step the weld broke and the step sheared off leaving me hanging on for dear life. Luckily I was able to grab a step before I fell 20 ft. A step ripped my side up pretty good and somehow ripped my boot but didn't get my leg. It happened so fast I am not sure what all happened when it broke but it could have ended badly. Never seen a step break and I ain't nowhere near the weight limit!!!!

That sucks. Glad your ok. Contact them and let them know immediately just in case it was a bad batch and they can catch the rest. This is another reason I'm glad I'm using life lines now.

It was the 20ft 5 section ladder. Sent millennium an email. We will see.

I've been making my own stands for years. I've had folks tell me I better be careful, but at least I have confidence in my abilities.

I have seen countless times how deer stands, automobile and accessories, and utility trailers are made with super poor craftsmanship.

we shopped for a 20' farm trailer this year, and it was all I could do to find one that didn't look like bubba put it together.

After looking at where the step used to be after it broke, there ain't much weld holding it on. Scary......I can't be the only one this will happen to. Thank god it wasn't in the dark.

Glad you're alright! Millennium definitely needs to know about it and I would assume they will make it right. They are based out of Pearl. Maybe you could go see them personally.

Seems there have been several problems with their stick ladders. I think most of the others I have seen have been due to the straps failing.

I feel sure they will give you a new ladder.
I agree with Peewee. I think a Lifeline is a must-have...like an insurance policy.
I had a bolt break inside one of their receivers/cams; but I had left it on a big oak tree all year. It was my fault, but just an example of what can happen.

Vans had no problem replacing the section. Sent millennium an email and van said he would save the section I gave in case they wanted to see it.

I didn't take a pic but it was sheared off cleanly as in there wasn't much weld there to begin with. I haven't heard back from them and from some Pms I doubt I will. That is sad of a local company. I could have very easily been killed. So glad it wasn't when I was hunting and would have been dark etc. no more millenniums for me and I am triple checking what I do have. Hope it doesn't take someone dying for them to take action.

This is scary as hell  I've heard of more failures on stands, steps, ladders, etc this year than ever before. I had a summit buck step strap break loose with me last week. Not the strap break but the connector that you tighten up. It just broke loose and slid thru the connector. I didn't fall but only because I had already grabbed the limb that I hold to get in the stand. It was my top step! Scared the bejesus out of me! I'm about to put lifelines up on all of mine.

A lifeline is a must have for me these days. Like I said before, I take responsibility for leaving this thing out over the summer. I know I am not the only one who does this occasionally. I fell into the trap of thinking that it was a chain and couldn't/wouldn't break. YOU JUST CAN'T BE TOO CAREFUL

Yeah. My brand new millennium sticks had the top section strap break when I was moving it. Fell 20', crushed 2 vertebrae and spent a week in the hospital last September. I don't trust anything at all from them.
