Dog and Heartworms

Postby JB » Wed Jan 02, 2002 10:43 pm

Just wanted to share an experience with you guys. Last summer, my labs (two) were found to have heartworms (the results of missing 2 months of preventer in MS summer). Vet said he could get rid of the heartworms with treatments that would cost $400 per dog and there was a chance they might not survive the treatment. I was not in the position to lay out $800 on dogs on the chance they might pull through. So I informed him I would hope for the best. He then told me that the preventative I was using (Heartgard Plus) has been known to get rid of heartworms with time.

I'm happy to say that they were found to be hearworm free last week. Maybe this info will help you make a decision in the future.

had same problem with the missing days, but my dog went through the treatment and it was hard on him but he survived and looks great. he also took the shot so he has to be treated 2 times a year. this makes it easy to keep him in good health and i don't have to worry about missing the pills daily anymore.
