7 mag ammo

I'll second the 150grain ballistic tip,when I shot my 7mag that's what I fed it.Not gonna tell ya how to shoot but if you'd move back alittle off the shoulder and shoot at the crease behind the shoulder,every thing you shoot with that 7 should fall dead where it's standing.

Well shot second deer today with federal premium sierra game king 150gr btsp 100 yards. 110lb doe quartered toward went in behind front shoulder "NO EXIT HOLE" again it angled threw vitals and was lodged in front of other shoulder just in the skin the bullet I recovered was hollow....... IMO this is crappy ammo thank goodness she dropped had she ran prob never found her. I can't wait to try these Bergers. Think I'm just gonna hunt with 444 till they arrive.

Partition or Accubond. Or, if you don't think those penetrate enough, Barnes tipped Triple Shock. If one of those 3 don't penetrate enough for you, I don't know what to tell you...

Have that 7 mag chamber extended to a 7mm STW, shoot a 165gr sierra gk boat tail. Then you will have a magnum that gives exit holes.

+1. I can't imagine a 7mm Rem Mag not leaving an exit hole, though. The only deer I shot that didn't have an exit hole was a 190 lb 6pt that I shot facing me in the left shoulder. The 160 gr Partition went all the way to the right hip and was recovered just under the skin and turned the entire body cavity to mush...

What ammo do you guys shoot that hunt with 7 mag. I am looking for a bullet that leaves a good exit hole and does maximum damage. I have shot Barnes triple shock 110gr, hornady 139 gmx, and federal premium 150 gr Sierra game king btsp . I am not very happy with any of them.

No such thing! You want to do max damage you must stop the bullet in the deer! When a bullet exits a deer you have absolutely no idea what kind of energy you put into it. I shot the 7mm for years. Shot 140 gr BTST traveling a touch over 3400fps. Killed deer with it from up close and personal to well over 500. Longest was 563. NEVER had a deer go over 30 yards with it. Most dropped either in their tracks or within jumping distance. Never had a passthru at anything over about 75 yards. But generally found bullet lying just under skin on opposite side with about 85% weight retention. Can't ask for much better than that! Now most every gun is gonna shoot one factory load or another differently. If you wanting the best of both worlds you need to go to handloading and match your bullet/gun combination to do just that. What good is it gonna do you to have a cartridge with 3500ftlbs of energy if you only putting 15 to 1600 of it in the deer? ABSOLUTLY NOTHING. It's a waste and most likely will loose the very trophy you are hunting. Other than the range/ballistics of the magnum caliber, if you not gonna utilize the energy then why shoot it? If you find the right bullet you can stop any of em in a whitetail. Im currently shooting a Warbird with a 150gr. GMX bullet at over 3700fps and stopping it in a deer! Needless to say, NO TRACKING INVOLVED! It's all about kinetics!

Sure you will most likely have passthrus with most anything up close. That's what neckshots are for. But when that trophy steps out at 4,5 or even 600 yards you better know your s*&%. Cause I can assure you, if you get a passthru out at those ranges you are not putting much energy into a deer! Odds of you finding that deer just went way down too! There are a lot of great bullets on the market today. Some are way to thick for up close shots but ok downrange others are way to thin and simply disintegrate upon impact and do very little damage. This is what happened to give "Ballistic Tip" bullets a bad rap. Nothing wrong with a ballistic tipped bullet. You just have to find the right bullet for the application at hand. Also just because a bullet has a polycarbonate tip on it does not necessarily mean its a "ballistic tipped bullet! In the .284 caliber though about a 140 to 150 grain bullet will have the best bullet coefficient as anything.
