I would like to see the numbers of ducks killed per state this year. It seems the state of Mississippi would be lower than normal (from what i have witnessed) and it really doesn't have anything to do with our state limits. If the average for the state is less than four ducks per hunt then why do you care if the limit is six. All we will do is lower our average for the year if we decrease our limit.

I don't think it would kill habitat restoration at all Gulfcoast, I've been thinking more about this lately. Someone posted recently that there were 12,000 or maybe 14,000 duck stamps sold in MS last year. We could assume there are at least that many fed stamps being sold in the state too.

Using 12,000 stamps:

Fed - $15 x 12,000 = $ 180,000
State - $10 x 12,000 = $ 120,000

If the cost of the stamp was raised to $500 and $250 respectively it would assuredly cut down on the total number of stamps being sold.

But if there were only 500 stamps sold in MS because of the price increase, our state alone would have generated more money for the respective duck stamp programs.

Fed - $500 x 500 = $250,000
State - $250 x 500 = $125,000

This is just an example of MS's contribution to the fed stamp program, I'm sure that similar numbers would occur throughout the other states. Fact of the matter is that we would probably sell more than 500 stamps in our state alone. And just think how much better the world would be without all the complaining. Those of you who think we're killing too many ducks, this would certainly cut down on that as there would only be a fraction of the hunters out there that we once had. Public lands would be ghost towns, during duck season, and leases would probably be cheaper with less demand for them. Heck, Fightin' Bayou shares would probably even loose their value.

Alright, the 12,000-14,000 was wrong. I spoke with Webfoot earlier today and he informed me that some 34,000 + MS state stamps were sold last duck season. So I was wrong about my numbers. We would have to sell 1000 - 1300 stamps at the dollar amount I suggested, just be at the same revenue point that we currently are.

I would certainly pay it to hunt here, but I may not pay an extra $500 to go to LA and AR a couple of times every year. It's certainly one solution to the perceived problem of too much hunting pressure. This way we won't have to give up days with NO scientific reasoning behind it. Would this plan really work, I wonder how many folks would NOT pay it?
