probably bring down those lease prices to wildfowler.

...Back to the subject, I will shoot what the law allows, but don't have a problem with the limit being lowered if that is what we need to do. I know my dad went through some times with low duck limits and the point system and it benefited all of us in the 90s. A self imposed 4 duck limit would be great, but heck is going to do that. Nobody I know. I have spent enough time in a duck blind without a duck in sight this winter. If the opportunity presents itself I am sure not going to stop shooting at 4 ducks.

Another thing I have always wondered, why are we so protective of the mallard. The mallard population is somewhere around 7-8 million and there is a 4 duck limit. There only about 2 million widgeon and we can kill six, doesn't really make sense to me. Has nobody else ever wondered this? I would rather have a limit of greenheads anyday, but I am a duck hunter and I am not prejudice, widgeons and gadwalls eat pretty good too.

I agree with MSdawg on the limit/number game....they're doing it with pintails, so why not adjust the bag limit on every species to their relative count.....Californian's can kill 6 pintails, I believe, but their numbers are higher out there than anywhere else in the country....

I also agree with Anatidae on "the picture"....it used to be about the numbers at the ramp, but now, it's about working birds and seeing just how beautiful a picture you can paint in your memory.....the biggest flock of mallards this year was between 35-50 birds that were within 25 yards at one time or another and my bud and me never fired a shot....if I don't kill another duck this year, that alone will be what stands out and will bring me back next year.....

Getting old sucks.....but the friends and memories made along the way make it worth it.....

So Shoot what you're saying is that if you have two greenhead on your strap and you smoke two teal (cause they're such good eatin) and then 90 seconds later a big fat greenhead drops down in your spread you aint gonna shoot it. whatever man....whatever.

The limit is six, set by laws. If i kill six ducks i don't consider it to be unethical. If they do change the limit then i will abide by that law, b/c i still believe that the powers that be know more than me (although i believe that less and less now).

Hillhunter your powers of perception elude you once again I see. I never said anything about what I would or would not do. I was only asking a question. However if you must know my thinking on the subject here it is:
If it is possible to kill a limit of six ducks,I will.If it was possible to kill only four then I would abide by the limit. All I was saying is that if some people here believe so strongly in a lower limit then instead of posting we need to lower the limit post then going to their favorite hole and killing six, maybe they should kill their four and go home.Understand now?
Did you shoot?

yea i read your first post wrong, wasn't trying to jump you or nothin....

My post doesn't neccesarily apply to you in particular shoot. I just find hard to believe that someone could do what i decribed, just b\c they "believe" we should have lower limits.

I too would shoot a limit if the opportunity presented itself. Unfortunately it has not so far this season. However, I do pass on the hens when at all possible.

Ah heck GulfCoast, everyone around here already thinks there is way too much federal refuge land anyway. And besides, Mississippi doesn't even use it's duck stamp money. Our money is just sitting in a bank account somewhere doing no one any good at all. And it's probably not even gathering interest either. So I say lets solve the problem of too much hunting pressure while continuing to maximize the utilization of the resource.

Actually, I have a spread sheet around here someplace of what it is used for. About 50% goes straight to DU to build refuges in Missouri!
