goodbye world as we know it
Wonderful news this morning!! Gov't shut down!! Hip, Hip, Hooray!! (sarcasm)
What did the republicans accomplish? In my mind, this accomplishes the worst possible outcome for this country. This ought to guarantee the democrats take back the house within the next two election cycles, and thus take over full control of the government. Implementing their radical agenda at will. The democrats in office, backed up by the worshiping news media will successfully spin this into a story that further damages the republican/conservative party making the conservatives to look like the villain.
I think the better strategy would have been to insist that the full force of this law take effect as soon as possible. Do not give any waivers, do not give any delays to anyone. If this law had been allowed to go through on time it would have surely caused so much pain and misery in the country that hopefully enough people would have been harmed so badly that they would be forced to vote these fools out of office?
We're done for!
Sorry for the rant, and no, I did not express my views to my representatives in office ahead of time. I take full responsibility for not trying to stop this from happening.

All democracies eventually fail...we are just lucky enough to watch ours on live television. Why we are not marching on Washington with muskets is beyond me.
Re: goodbye world as we know it
We were done for anyway IMO..Elections won't get the problem fixed. Its time to take a stand,, or go home STFU and give Barry what he wants..Not directed at anybody on DS..

Re: goodbye world as we know it
When the (Obamacare) bill passed, as when all bills pass, the President doesn't have the athority to change the bill or how it's implemented, but Obama
doesn't care about the rule of law. He knows he can do what he wants and get away with it. Passing another bill saying "No Exceptions" would be pointless
to the dictator we have in the big house. When / if he wants to give a waver, he's going to do it on any law. Just like he does with his "Justice" department.
Pick and choose what laws he wants to defend. No one challenges him, and no one takes it to court.
This will piss a lot of people off because they lost some work days. The Republicans will cave in less than a week and the people that lost hours
will be back paid for their lost time, so basically paid days off. I think when you are trying to right a ship, there are going to be some pains along
the way. I pray for those affected but know that sometimes the bigger picture is hard to see when you are disrupted in this way. The only way to
get this country straightened out, is to slap this government on the @$$ and tell it to act right or else. Dems need to go in 2014, but the problem is
that only around 50% of the people in this country are the ones pulling the wagon. The other 50% are riding and don't want to get out.

Does this mean I can go hunt any national wildlife refuge I want to right now without fear of any repercussions?
In seriousness, I just read where Florida says it could/might/will shut down parks, refuges, boat ramps etc... Say it ain't so. Why are the working men and women taking the brunt of this instead of the lawmakers? Can't we just send them home without pay...permanently?

Re: goodbye world as we know it
The Republicans are not marketing this properly.
Speaker Boener keeps saying that the "Senate" is refusing to negotiate and compromise, and the "White House" is refusing to negotiate. What he should be shouting is that the "Democrats" are refusing to negotiate and the "Democrats" are forcing a government shutdown. The Republicans are getting blamed for this anyway, so they might as well fight for the truth.
Meanwhile, none of this is really going to hurt us, the American people. Remember, this is the same ship of fools who spread panic about other calamities that didn't cause any real problems for Americans -
a) Raising the debt limit will solve our economic problems/cause economic caos (I tend to agreee with the 'caos' theory.) - no effect yet on the current economy.
b) Sequester will cause terrible hardship for the country - it has had no effect whatsoever.
c) Downgrading of our debt rating will destroy America (I tend to agree with this one) - no effect yet on the current economy.
d) Shutting down the federal government will turn the U.S. into Europe - I'll believe it when I see it.
So far, all we have gotten out of Washington (from BOTH parties, I might add) is a lot of hot air, and not much of anything else. Personally, I think shutting down the Federal Government for a while is a good thing. Researchers are reporting that the American people are now more conservative that we have been since 1952. Yes, we are more polarized politically as well, so maybe this shutdown can act as a respit and give us some time to think as a nation. Let some clearer heads prevail, and stop being so 'Chicken Little' about the USA.
This is further evidence that Americans elect our criminals to public office. That way we can keep an eye on them, we can keep them busy, and they won't hurt anybody.

Nobody owes you anything.
Re: goodbye world as we know it
Hate to say it, but this absolutely assures the Democrats will keep the Senate and White House in the next election. Don't really know how the House will shake out, but I think the Republicans lose heavily on this one! I bet the Congress' pay does not stop with this shutdown!
Re: goodbye world as we know it
I agree this was a dumb move by the GOP. I admire them for sticking to their guns, but not when it hurts the average American that doesn't like the bill anyway.. Obamacare is owned soley by the Dems.. Let the bill fall on it's own sword and 2014 would be better results for the GOP..

It did not matter what the GOP did. We can never win the election as long as the democrats continue to give handouts and buy votes with taxpayer dollars. The majority of the country votes based on how it will affect their food stamps, welfare, social security, free healthcare, crazy check, disablilty, etc.
We were on a sinking ship before this ever started. The question is whether or not we see the demise or if we leave it to our children to deal with.
Either way the outcome is inevitable. No good thing lasts forever.

I love Harry Reid! He's my hero!
With his drive and Obama's support, they accomplished defeating the Republicans!
They will essentially get what they want!
Obamacare will be in full force, although they won't have to use it.
Handout's for everyone! Of course, they will dictate to whom!
Everyone needs to get on the bandwagon.
And on a brighter note: To all whom are in "Congress" and whom are "running" the "Show". If'n I couldn't handle my job, I'd be fired. I always thought to be of use, to be of good, or to be worth anything, I had to produce!
I've been really watching it lately. Instead of paying to improve, or simply to produce, the government has seen it fit to pay to do the exact opposite! It's awesome. Do nothing, get paid! Do something, get it taken to pay others!
A new LAW needs to be in place. Let's limit the years (4 year term) of those whom have used our tax dollars to pad their pockets "Congress".
Back to your regular programming. Slightly pissed I sold myself short and didn't go into politics!

Re: goodbye world as we know it
Its all a show.....come on guys. There is no Rebublican or Democratic party, they are in it together, just smoke and mirrors.
Gov't slowdown, maybe, but not a gov't shutdown.....to afraid they would lose their power and their paycheck.

Re: goodbye world as we know it
Well I'm pissed, I'm military so I honestly have no clue if i will even be getting paid during this time. As far as I know there is no clause that keeps us getting paid. We need to PURGE this whole damn system. Take that however you want it. It also makes me ashamed to be an American that "our" politicians can't get their heads out of each others aspes and just come together. I dont give a Fug how just do it.

Re: goodbye world as we know it
As painful (and bloody) as it will be, the only way this mess gets fixed is if the entire system collapses. We need to hit the reset button and start over. Many nations have had to learn this the hard way to gain back freedoms...look at the former soviet union and Germany as prime examples.
I disagree that this assures that the Democrats take back the House...the numbers are just not there for them. They will likely maintain the Senate. The demographics have shifted enough in this nation that it is exceedingly unlikely that we will see another GOP president. Romney won the independent vote going away and still lost in near landslide fashion to Obama. As long as the Democrats run a candidate that will get their vote out on election day, then we will never see another GOP president.
I do think that 100 years from today, historians will look back at this day...October 1, 2013, as the day the US died...the final, fatal blow was thrown and landed in the implementation of Obamacare. It is just shuffling deck chairs from this point forward.
In reality, Obamacare is just a manifestation or symptom of what we have become. We no longer have statesmen in politics...but that is just a manifestation of expectation of the voting populous. The people don't require greatness, therefore they don't get it. The don't require accountability, so it is not there. They don't require competence, so there is no competence. They people don't love this country so why would those they elect to office love it either.
I am not a doomsday prepper...not a person that predicts a societal reset or collapse in impending fashion. However, if the day comes when those that have voted their personal interests over the interests of the nation stop receiving their checks and support, the calamity that will ensue shortly thereafter will be something to behold. I hope Christ comes back for his people before they day inevitably comes about.
