My cousin is involved in a business that makes some clothing and lots of accessories. He opened a factory here in MS to produce his goods. He ended up shutting it down and moving production over seas so as to still be competitive in the US market place. It was significantly cheaper and worst of all higher quality workmanship in the Chinese product than the US product. Rules, regulations, and labor ran the business out of the US. Sad state of affairs or different strokes.

Wonder how much Duck Dynasty crap will be on public waters this year. I was in WalMart the other day and there was all kind of Duck Dynasty crap on the shelf. There were even anti-microbial Band-Aids. I couldn't believe it
I saw those too. They're ruining the show with all this junk in my opinion. It's gonna be the next Swamp People...

So your point is what? Buy Chinese because it's higher quality. Keep your brother in business because he left US production. Labor is cheaper in China (we'll just overlook all the human rights issues to keep the discussion simple

If someone wants to buy that stuff great. More power to them. I don't care. It's just not for me. And yes, it's still junk.

I think the point is that the reason most Americans buy foriegn made stuff is because one: we don't have much option anymore and two: that reason for number one is the gov has made it too hard on small business' in America to thrive with all the rules, regs, labor unions, tax crap, etc... At the end of the day, an american business owner would love to have his stuff manufactured in America, but at the current time it is not a good BUSINESS move to do so. Especially with the ObamaCare junk coming now, it is too hard to make a profit. The gov is the problem.....again Just too many regulations

Do this at Christmas When each person opens a gift, write down where it was made, then after thay are all done count it up.
Had a buddy do that last year and out of 80 gifts only one was made in America....a leather pistol holster made in Texas

I agree that unfortunately the worst enemy of he US is the US itself. Many of the regulations that are put into effect cause calamity down the road that whoever is in office at the time takes the blame for. The housing disaster is a good example as many of the rules and regs the caused that debacle were put in place during the Clinton years. Good example being The Community Reinvestment Act that Banks had to follow and achieve so many points on during exams. There's another name for Community Reinvestment Act mortgage and that's called an ORE credit on genera ledger.

In that one instance it was higher quality I did not say its always higher quality. I also did not ask anyone to buy my cousins stuff. I was just citing an instance where US goods(your preference and mine) were not cost efficient. I mentioned why that was...our US government.

I also don't by into the "save the American worker/evil American business owner" argument since most of the downtrodden "American workers" keep electing these clowns to take away their liberties. You have not made that argument but many "buy US" folks do support that mentality.

I also don't agree with china's human rights track record, their currency manipulation, their environmental destruction, family planning, govt structure, commodity stockpiling/manipulation, Chinese politics, anti Christian attitude, industrial/military espionage or just about anything they do. The only thing I like about china is that they do import some US goods...sometimes.

At the end of the day IMO our "workforce" is unwilling to put in much over 40hrs a week and that's with vacation, sick days, paid leave, pensions, cushy air conditioned offices, OSHA approved everything, unionized that, 5 different bathrooms for the males, females, shemales, maleshes, and undecided. Can't be interfering with some ones rights to spend 10 or 7 hours a day vegging out on TV eating junk food. That being said I think it's a bit of a disadvantage to the US.

This reminds me of the "Chinese or American flashlight threads" on all the forums lately. Some say they won't buy from China and only buy American, but the thing is.......ALL the lights they're talking about are being made in China. Pay directly to the commies or to the middle man company that then pays the commies, either way it's still going over yonder. Still sucks though.

I worked as a DJ at a radio station in college. The GM made us stop playing Michael Jackson's "Beat It" because he thought it meant self gratification....
