Still Waiting On My First Open Carry Sighting
Still Waiting On My First Open Carry Sighting
For work I travel through a four county area weekly, thus I was certain that I would encounter an open carry fellar here or there, rural or city.
But nope not at all, not even on my limited trips while off work. While "No Guns" signs are a common sight now, I have yet to see anyone open carry anywhere.
What about ya'll?

On I 10 around the Ocean Springs exit east bound, a motorcyclist whipped by us going to work in a Gov. van. The cook sitting next to me(a brother) said, "You see that! That dude has a gun on his belt!" To which I replied,"You in Mississippi now brother. We have open carry." The cook is from Millington, TN. Do not think he liked it too much but I told him I would rather see it and know than the concealed one on a guy up to no good!

There's a kid workin in the liquor store next to Kroger. He's packin. It looks kinda ridiculous for the area and demographic that visits that business.

Our permits in TN are simply handgun carry permits, concealment is not a requirement. That being said, most do chose to conceal for any # of reasons.mudsucker wrote:The cook is from Millington, TN. Do not think he liked it too much...
I am interested in purchasing duck calls that were made by Mike McLemore. I am a family member and they have a sentimental value.

have not seen it.. This panned out just as all us instructors said it would.. No real change other than lots of signs, signs, signs and now you will need the Enhanced Carry Permit to carry in almost anyplace..

Well since all it takes is a sign to legally deny someone's constitutional rights, I'm thinking about buying a store and putting up a few signs of my own.

Where'd who go?

The MS constitution of 1890 states "The right of every citizen to keep and bear arms in defense of home, person, or property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall not be called in question, but the legislature may regulate or forbid carrying concealed weapons."
It never says you have the right to carry on someone else's property..In other words, if I tell you you can't come into my house with a gun on your hip.. You can't come into my house with a gun on your hip.. Your right to carry, does not override my right as a property owner..
The solution is simple.. Get your permit, get your enhanced carry sticker and carry on.....

I think carrying concealed and the "no weapons" sign posted by property owners is a pretty gray area right now. I had initially heard that the Enhanced carry permit over rode the signs. There is a way too much debate on it now to be confident in exactly what is permitted.
I do not profess to know all I should and would love to see just how many different answers we get on the legality of this. This board is full of Attorneys as well as law enforcement and I would guess you will get an array of answers.
There will be a day....

Yes, there is still debate on exactly how that applies.. The best resource for all this in my opinion continues to be

Re: Still Waiting On My First Open Carry Sighting
What exactly are the consequences for a person (carrying concealed) entering a business with a "No Firearms Sign" and being caught with said firearm? What are the charges? I realize that this is an unlikely scenario if its concealed correctly.
If I CC'd everyday, I think I would ignore all of those private business signs. Take my chances. Meaning the ONLY way they'd know I was armed is after I've defended my life with the gun as a last resort.
I wonder what percentage of CCer's are actually "Ignoring the Signs" these days?

[85] § 97-37-7(2) states that, with a few exceptions, a person with the endorsement may carry weapons in “any location listed in
subsection (13) of Section 45-9-101” which would include posted premises. While it is not a violation of the concealed weapons
laws to carry in a posted premises it could exceed the scope of the license holder’s invitation if s/he knowingly entered the
premises in violation of the owner’s instructions. The most appropriate charge would therefore be trespassing. See § 97-17-97
making such crime a misdemeanor punishable by up to a $500 fine and/or six months in the county jail.
