Ok - got my wife here to share her recipe. She buys a 16 oz bag of raw peanuts at our local grocery store (or walmart) - places in the crock pot - and fills with water and 1 cup of salt. Place on high for overnight - (like 12 hours) - they are not really boiling but it's plenty hot. If you like 'em a bit stiff - they're ready after the 12 hours. For me I like 'em softer so I prefer turning the Crock Pot after the 12 hours to low and letting 'em simmer another 4 hours. Also - stir every so often just to move the salt water around. You'll notice next morning your peanuts are no longer floating as they have allowed the water to enter the shell.

Again, much easier (and cheaper) than burning all that propane outside to boil for 2-3-4 hours or more.
Son, be sure to check the oil. The gas will take care of itself. George Carter - Circa 1965

I haven't been over and saw any at a produce stand but there was a good bit of the peanut farming around our property last year. I sampled some after they were harvested and they were a smaller variety peanut. The geese seemed to like them.

If you ever find yourself in Birmingham, you have to go by The Peanut Depot, downtown. They supply a good many major league parks with peanuts and have been in the business for 100+
They were recently featured in an episode of Strange Foods with Andrew Simmern (nothing strange about a peanut...)

I bought a bushel this weekend (30 lbs) at Donnas Produce for 38.00 and boiled them on my crawfish cooker. I put all 30lbs in pot and added 1 1/2 box of salt and filled until I could see the water. They boiled roughly 1.5 hours covered , try one after 1.5 hours and if they are tender cut off fire and soak for 1-2 hours
