I could be wrong, but i think the longest " cottonmouth " on record was about 6ft.

Don't doubt that a cottonmouth can get to 7 ft one bit. I saw, with my own eyes, a cottonmouth stretched out sunning itself and, nose to tail, touched the outside edges of a 330D excavator track. It was as big around as my elbow and it's head was the size of my fist, no BS. Tried to kill it and missed with a hoe. It raised up like a cobra and was even with my chest. After it lowered itself and slithered off, I changed my shorts and went on to bust up beaver dams but couldn't stop looking over my shoulder...
