Ask DS: Costa Rica

Postby strutter » Fri Jul 26, 2013 12:23 pm

Any of you guys been to or know someone who vacationed in Costa Rica? I'm trying to find a cool place to take the wife on a little vacation without the kids. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Honeymooned in Quanacaste (SP??), it was a good time. Very poor place but our resort was nice, it was kid friendly. I wouldn't recommend getting a kid friendly resort. All the tours and stuff will be the same you just book them at your resort. I really enjoyed the tranquility of it though. Fun times are to be had over there, I talked about it enough my parents vacationed at the same resort last year and they enjoyed it also.

Check out Villas de Calletas website. Outside Jaco on the side of a mountain. Damn near touch the sunsets. It's a jeep ride to the beach that the staff will come get you with a phone call. And go fish for sure.

Went to Costa Rica a few years ago and stayed in Playa de Hermosa, right outside of Jaco. I would go back in a heart beat. There was a resort in the gated community that we stayed. We rented a house inside the resort and loved it. Manuel Antonio State Park was near and has one of the only white sand beaches around with plenty of hiking trails to explore and see the wildlife (monkies, 2 toed sloths, and 3 toed sloths). Like I said a great place.

Same here. Stayed at The Backyard. Loved the black sand beaches, awesome local food and beer.
I will go back there with the wife in the future.

Tobacon Resort around the Arenal Volcano is really nice. You have the Arenal Lake here La Fortuna is a decent sized town.

Flor Blanca Resort in the Santa Teresa/Mal Pais area- this on the Pacific. The best bakery I've ever been too is here- literally ate there every morning. The Cabo Blanco rainforest is a short drive.

It has been a few years, but I stayed at a Barcelo resort in Tambor on the pacific side and it was awesome! They had all kind of tours you could take, the only one I did was riding 4 wheelers in the rain forest and that was very, very cool. You can either take a bus which takes 6 hours to get there, or it is a short 25 minute flight from San Jose, and the flights are very cheap!

It's only about a 20 minute boat ride to blue water pretty much anywhere on the pacific coast.

Be sure to keep your self hydrated. Brought back this bottle from my 2003 trip.
