Blind project

Postby teul2 » Thu Jul 11, 2013 1:52 pm

Building a pontoon blind for my summer project. Figured I'd post it up as I worked on it so I'd have some accountability to get it complete.
Started out with an 8X18 boat. Going to foam the toons so no one can pop 'em on me as this will be a fairly permanent blind. And Jack Waggons are everywhere.

Started the tear apart this weekend. Deck wood is usable, but won't last. So rather than have to redo it in 2 or 3 years, I'm going to do it all right now. Getting this decking off is going to be a P.I.T.A. All the screws are rusted over so I am not real sure how to proceed. Guess I'll grind a new flat head notch in them and try that. Pricing aluminum sheet for it, but if it is to expensive going to 2x4 deck it.
Had to get approval for the funds to be spent, so, I went ahead and built the dog ramp with lumber I had on hand. Took out the transom board, and put the ramp on long bolts that will allow it to swing up when not in use.

Started on the rails also with some self etching primer. Will re use some of them, so I wanted to camo them as much as I could.

Anyway, more to come.

YOU'RE DOING IT ALL WRONG!!!
I am interested in purchasing duck calls that were made by Mike McLemore. I am a family member and they have a sentimental value.

It is, and no. That's the first vehicle I purchased with my own money. It's getting a rebuild as soon as I can build a place to do it.

Good work buddy! I know Canton doesn't need that ramp. She can probably flat foot in there.

Make sure you use closed cell foam. Open cell foam will take in water and will still sink.

Yup, will need one 80lb kit per pontoon of the 2 LB Density Urethane Foam (U.S. Coast Guard Compliant Marine Foam) from U.S. Composites. That will expand to 40 cubic feet and the pontoon is only about 58. So it won't be completely full, but you're not going to sink it easy (or at all) either.

40 cubic feet (two 5 gallon buckets) is $250ish. I'll have to get two of those, one for each toon.
