This has been the worst hunting season I have ever had. Ducks and deer. I am always trying to hunt the wrong thing. I'll hunt ducks for a few days with little luck and get discouraged and decide to deer hunt. I am trying to kill a good buck and I see does and little bucks by the dozens. Then I get home and I'll have 9 messages saying someone found the ducks. Of course I go back duck hunting and, No ducks. I guess I have too many hobbies. I am about ready to start fishing, I know I can catch fish. On a scale of 1 to 10 how has your season ranked? Mine is definitely a 1. But I love it any way.

My year has been a 1. There are no ducks to speak of. In southeast La., I thought last year was bad, this year is the pitts. I don't remember another year this bad since I began hunting (and that was a long time ago).

Xpress,
Same here...I'd have to say the scoreboard looks like this: Ducks-5 Hunters-1

Only one trip to the swamp have we taken more than one duck home (opening weekend limits). Had some beautiful mornings watching the sun come up. Have had perfect conditions with the right amount of wind. Had a few ducks try to work us each day. But they're real skiddish this year. Maybe they all had lasik surgery in Canada and can spot camo clad hunters from a mile up.

I figure the numbers just aint here and those that are flying around have been peppered pretty hard for a while.

If this string continues, I'm going to have to change my lab's name to Uno...Every time I carry her hunting this year, she only gets to fetch ONE duck.

But, I'm thinking January is gonna be big fun and I'll continue to tell my hunting partner that this coming up weekend is gonna be the day. If it aint, then we'll have to pick up the blocks and drown our sorrow in some Waffle house. And do it again until it gets good.

I wouldn't call it a terrible season yet. I have seen a TON of ducks every time that I have gone to the delta. I have seen just as many ducks as last year. However, they have sure as heck been hard to hunt. From what I have seen, they have been feeding slap in the middle of thousands of acres of sheetwater, where they are hard as heck to get to and there is no cover. I have started using a layout blind with some success. At night they are holing up in the thick stuff in pretty deep water, at least that is what I have seen. Hopefully, in the next 2 weeks we will get some of the water off the middle and north delta, and things will be back to normal for the last 2 weeks.

This is the first year that I have killed more ducks on the coast than in the delta. Shot 3 grayducks and 3 mottled ducks in the salt marsh yesterday, bet if I drove north I coulda sold 'em for gold in sharkey county!

It will get better.

For killin' ducks I would have say the rating would be 1.

But just being out there to witness some things that others can't, it is truly a blessing. Just plain fun even when it ain't no ducks. Rating 10

Happy to live in a country where I'm free to do what I love to do.

My season has been marginal at best, only two hunts where we were done with limits @ 7:30. Dont know what the deal is I to am seeing alot of ducks, but they just dont wanna work! I believe all the excess water we have this year that dont get hunted is our problem. A)Stay here eat not get shot at B)Go to the usual fields work in the decoys and get shot. I know what I'd do!! Its really tough on me. I have spent $10,000 this year on hunting and I am not even part of a duck lease. Luckily I only have to work 10 or 11 days a month and If the ducks get where I am I'll be there to spank 'em. But like I told someone the other day, If I kill a limit every day I hunt for the rest of the season, this year will still not be as good as my last year. If I did that , my rating on this year would go up to about a 7 though.

Express, I'm with you. We had ducks earlier when no one else did now they have just disappeared. Talked to some buddies who hunt N.E. Arkansas and they don't have um either.
I have never seen ducks act this way. We had six mallards saturday morning. I checked to see what they have been eating and nothing is in the crow. Can ducks go 5 to 6 days without eating? Is this a government conspiracy against duckhunters?

Hey Torch tell No Angel not to be so easy to go down. Yes it not a 10 on the scale of taking a limit of ducks, but I will give it a 10 for the oppurtunity and the thrill my son and I had watching the ducks we did see. To all who have not been to DIXIE DUCKS, go!!!!!

this season has SUCKED!!!! I don't know where the ducks are, but I know they definately are NOT where I have been hunting. I have zeroed the past 3 times out at traditionally excellent places. I'm thoroughly disgusted with all this crap and am fixing to call it a year unless something changes.

we have had ducks several times this year but they are moving to different wooded areas that you damn near have to parachute into. we will have several thousand one day and then they move 1/2 mile. i go burn 200 gallons of gas and find them , hunt them twice and they are moving again. how in the hell can you hide 10,000 ducks and not even see one flying into these places?? the season has been fair but i am going to have a nervous breakdown finding them. i rode til 10:00 last night to every hole in 20 miles and found a few and come daylight they hauled ass too???!!!!!!

I have to say this has been a "better than average" year for me, so far. All the water certainly hasn't helped, but the place I am hunting is seeing its fair share of ducks.

I am hunting public land, and the place I hunt is usually "loaded" with other boats, but this year it seems only one other fella has been hunting there. thank God he lets the birds work. He uses a robo, too. On the cloudy days I can steal the birds coming into his robo pretty consistantly. Sunny days he seems to do better, depending on the wind. He is a good caller too, but seems to get too loud later in the day, and starts to call too much.

We need a good freeze about 50 miles north of us to bring in those orange-legged dumb ducks!
