We lost a great sportsman and ambassador for duck hunting

Postby rraj » Tue Jul 09, 2013 7:27 pm

Our friend Bob Westerfield died Monday following complications of cancer. He was chairman of the ms Calling Contests for a number of years and continued to support us as a judge and committee member. Bob finished in the top 5 at the World Duck Calling Contest a number of times. At least one second place finish he was blowing a Yentzen double reed. Other accomplishments in the spotting world include: member of Fred Bear Archery Team, Ms State Turkey Calling Champion, accomplished marksman, and winner of the Ms State and Ms Delta Regional Duck Calling Contests a combined six times. He won numerous other Regional Contests. More than all this if you ever were fortunate to hunt wih Bob, you know he could light em in your lap!!!! If birds weren't moving his stories kept the blind rolling! While he was proud of all his accomplishments, he insisted that more important than any of these were the friendships he made along the way. He indeed has friends all over the country. He sure proved to me that what really matters are the people and the friendships that are made. God Bless and keep you my friend and thanks for the memories! Ronnie Raggio

Ronnie,

Thank you for posting this and please keep us updated on funeral arrangements. Mr. Bob was the biggest ambassador for contest calling in Mississippi and he did a dang good job. I'll never forget when I first got into contest calling before they had a youth division for the state he made sure there was one the following years. The Mississippi calling contests would not be what they are if it was not for him.

May the bunches be big and the wind at your back. RIP Mr. Bob.

We will all miss old "Chesterfield." He knew how to break the tension backstage during calling contest with one of his wild stories. RIP Bob....

Ronnie,

I will agree. Great guy. Please keep us updated on arrangements. He was first person I ever heard use the phrase, "double breasted mattress thrasher".

I also owe you lunch from way back. Let's try to make that happen next week.
