Missouri lawmakers are considering a bill that would require anyone applying for state aid to take a drug test.

State Sen. Bill Stouffer said those who receive state money should be no different than people who have to pass a drug test at work.

Stouffer said he wants to make sure state money is not being used to buy illegal drugs.

"One of our biggest concerns is that the state becomes an enabler with cash advances for drug use," Stouffer said.

"The whole idea of a social system is to have a safety net when people are struggling, and if it's harder and harder to access that safety net when most need it, then it's really kind of working against the principles that the state set in the first place," said Darin Preis, executive director of Central Missouri Community Action.

The bill would make anyone who fails a drug test ineligible for temporary state assistance for three years.



I think this is a novel idea, but think it will have a hard time passing.

this should be mandatory in all states for any type of State Aid. IMO

This is a great idea and I dont see why the government would turn down this idea nation-wide.

They would turn it down because of the cost of drug test.

The initial cost but think of the savings when they start busting people. and also think about the long term finiancial aspects.

Think about the saving of us not having to support Scum Bags. It would be in the millions. Plus people who actually needed help could get it.

One of my classes got on this subject the other day and this is the same idea the students came up with.
