My son's first trout

Postby duramax » Tue Mar 08, 2016 8:57 am

So I was relocated to Little Rock with my job a few months ago. I've found the the fishing opportunities are almost endless. So I decided to bring my 3 y/o son with me fishing the last two weekends. We fished a farm pond last summer a couple times and he's caught a few bluegill and small bass, but I decided I'd take him out for some real fishing about 2 weeks ago. We fished for walleye and only ended up with a couple spotted bass. Even though we only caught 2 fish in 4 hours, he still wanted to stay longer and showed no signs of being bored. I decided that this past weekend we'd go and fish for trout so I would be more certain the fishing action with be more consistent. We shifted to fishing for trout after an hour of trolling for walleye to no avail. I brought bait and bobbers for him, but it was inline spinners that were the ticket. We'd hook up almost every other cast and he reeled in a couple. However he really got a kick out of netting them. So I'd hook them, and he'd net them. This went on for about an hour or so. We cruised down river after that and he "drove" the boat as we drifted and I threw big crankbaits for a bit to try and entice a smallie, but I was interrupted by work phone calls as I was on call this weekend. We called it quits after about a 4 hour fishing trip again, and his drive never faded a bit.

The picture says it all:

I do not remember my first trout on an ultra lite but I do remember my first trout on my fly rod. Haven't picked up a spinning reel In 2 years. All fly rod.

Awesome stuff. Thanks for sharing.
