corn question

Postby jakethompson » Sat Feb 21, 2015 11:33 am

I have a moist soil area that I hunt. Last year I planted japanese millet and brown top. The millet got to an average height of 36-40 inches tall, had a beautiful stand. It is about two acres in size. I think the ducks ate it out in about one week??? I really wanna plant corn in the area. Any experience on just broad casting corn? That is the only way I would have to plant it. Thanks in advance for any help!

You'd be better off going back with the millet. MAYBE some rice.

What about planting with a one row corn planter. The kind you push. Anyone have luck with those?

You can broadcast it but corn really needs to be planted 2- 2.5" deep. If you have blackbirds, crows or turkeys they're gonna get it if it's barely covered up.
