Wood duck boxes questions

First time putting out duck boxes. Made 10 according to plans online and hung them last weekend. Is this too late to expect use this year? Reading online it varies saying they locate nesting spots as early as Dec. while some say it's closer to hatching.

Any experience or tips ? Best time of year to clean them out for the following year?
