Turkey Season 2019

Postby Hole Hunter » Mon Apr 01, 2019 3:22 pm

What are your reports on the season...?

Been pretty a great 2019 season thus far! I have taken one for myself and have called up two more for others.

The mornings have been cool but that has not slowed the success we have experienced in the first 15 or so days.

Best of Luck to you guys!!

Been kinda slow around here. I got one the Monday afternoon after opening weekend and they have been mostly silent since. I did call one up for my nephew. Got him to 50 yards and some dogs spooked him. Nephew took a shot but missed. Thought that boy was going to pee his pants. You could have dropped a gallon of paint in his lap and it would have been mixed in short order.

Had 3 fly down, Saturday morning, they didn't gobble, didn't strut, didn't respond to calls, didn't fight... nothing. Just fed and moved on.

I did have one gobbling yesterday afternoon but he wouldn't cross over the creek between us.

19#, 7/8" spurs & 11" beard. Called him in to 10 yards, he was silent all the way.

I've been up in the middle of them several times but can't close the deal. Which really just fuels the fire more.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

One bird has given it up so far out of the two hunts I’ve been on. Haven’t heard a gobble yet.

I really think they are just now getting started. Once we get out of the 30s and into the 40s / 50s in the mornings things are really going to take off. Last season I believe the turkeys had already starting before the season came in for us and then it fizzled out early for many. This year is more of a normal year when they really don't get going to early April or so. Just my 2 cents.
