4/1/2015 @ 4:20 pm (no joke)
~10" beard, no spurs, 15 steps

i guessed wrong yesterday afternoon and couldn't pull him around a bend in the lane from hens. gobbled 3 times close and once more much further away...left with the real deal instead of taking a chance on an expensive rubber imitation.
added a jake decoy today and hens hadn't come through, yet, so he was alone. slowly fed up the lane towards me until he could hear soft yelps, then slipped along the edge of the lane, out of sight, for the last 50yds or so. once he rounded the corner and saw the jake he blew up and crept up behind it. never got the chance to attack...first bird and he was way too close to take the chance of a missed opportunity. whew! what a rush!!!

mike, my apologies. i didn't think to put your call in a picture.

Nice bird, even if is of the spurless variety.

I have also heard it is genetics. Supposedly if you find one, you will also find more in his lineage with the same issue.

^^herman hermaphro was discussed as a name, post-mortem ( wife asked if i named him before i shot him....i guess "dinner" works nicely, too)

fyi: 12 hr brine is too long for boneless wild breast....6 is plenty for 1/2 c salt, 1/2 c brown sugar, 7 c water & seasons.
