PM's stuck in outbox?

PM's stuck in outbox?

Why do PM's often stay in the outgoing messages box for a day or two before being sent? Seems to happen mostly when replying as opposed to new messages.

When a pm is still shown in the outbox, the person on the receiving end has not read the message.
