Food Plots Look Bad

Postby bigoak » Sun Nov 07, 2010 7:30 am

Went and checked our food plots today and let me tell you they look BAD!! Got two inches of rain Tuesday & Wednesday but most of the seed has not sprouted. Planted about four weeks ago. Should I be worried? How long after a good rain until seed should start to sprout?

I'd give it another 2 weeks before I really got worried.

Is it too late to put out more Rye seed?
Planted about a month ago and plot is growing very
spotty. Thinking about hand spreading more seed in
hopes of filling the bare spots. What is yall's expert
opinion?
Thanks

If it hasn't sprouted 7-10 days after a good rain, you have problems

We planted the last weekend of September, right when the dry spell hit. I called my extension office and he recomended over seeding with larger seeds (wheat & oat) a couple hours ahead of a rain; he said the clover would be fine. He was exactly right! Our plots look perfect.
