If you decied to do em yourself, I am right down the road from you. Would be glad to come down and get ya started. I used to clean them wholesale for taxidermist.
It doesn't take much longer to clean several than it does one if you do it right.

Once you learn the in's and out's, you never send another one to the taxidermist. Can have them done in 3 days depending on how quick you want it done.

Here is what I have - 3 Bucks from this season - 1 from last season, 2 from the year before that, and 1 or 2 from the season before that season.

All heads/skulls have been kept under a barn and not ot in the sun. Some dried skin is still on the older heads/skulls.

Need prices.

Thanks

i have only ever done fresh heads. once the deer starts to rot the cartledge in the head turns black and stains the bone.

How rotten are the skulls from this year? If they are recent kills i may can work something out with you.

+1. He's doing one for me right now among about 100 others that he's already done this year.

skin the hide, spoon out all the brains you can, boil the head for 30 min and cut the meat off, you will have to repeat the boil and scrape 10 times or so to get it all cleaned off. if you boil it too long the bones will seperate and the skull will start to fall apart a year or two later. Hope you got a good stomach because its got a GOOD smell to it. them eye balls are the worst part.

Can I skin the skull, then freeze it and wait until season is over and boil them all the same day? Thanks!

Yes, sure can. And one tip, try to boil it on a low boil, submerge head about 5 minutes, remove, scrape, repeat. If you boil it too long or too high in 2 -3 years they begin to fall apart pretty bad. Luckily I learned from someone who had found out the hard way.

anyone ever tried those beetles? I hear that's the way to go since you don't have to deal with the boiling.
