You have one giant bedding area. There will be certain areas where the deer will tend to bed more than others however. Places where sight, as well as smell are to his advantage. Places where he has thick enough cover behind him to certainly alert him of an approacing danger so he can concentrate his awareness via sight/scent in one direction. Colder days he'll sit where he can get warm. Windy days he'll bed where he can sit on the downwind side of a hill out of the direct wind, yet allowing the wind to blow scent of approaching danger over the hill to him. There are other scenarios too, these are just a few.

Sometimes you can smell them.
