Well i would have to disagree. In my opinion a mature buck doesnt get mature out of luck or by being smart, its just cause they're weary. By that I mean (excluding rut) very cautious and nocturnal when it comes to human activity. For example, lets say your doing some scouting after a morning hunt (human activity)and you find a hell of a spot to hang a stand. You have the option of either hanging a loc-on or bringing your climber the next morning. Lets say you hang a loc-on, thats twice the human activity you just contaminated the area with than what you actually had to do. In my opinion the two biggest advantages i feel like I have when i walk into an area of woods that i am about to hunt is (in most cases) 1. Knowing the natural patterns of deer from past years, and the one i like the most 2. the element of suprise. For instance this upcoming season i will only hunt 2 different pieces of property (actually its 1 to many), I know both pieces of property very well and during bow season generally now the main patterns of the deer. Yes I will hang some loc-ons(no falling out of trees jokes please) only because there is no place to climb. So by knowing both pieces of property (which means less scouting) and only going into the animals habitat to hunt i think betters my chances at taking a mature whitetail. I feel most confident hunting that particular way.

It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Ol Sneaker brought a pair of those spikes to Starkville a couple years ago. Anyway we went out and got snokkered, got back to the house, and over a game of pool I got the bright (drunk) idea to try them out. Well I had no safety strap/rope/nothing but a pair of spikes. Of coarse sneaker thought this would be an excellent idea, and was agging me on the whole way! Well anywho, I strap the spikes over my Justin boots, and head to a tree in the back yard. So here I am in khakis, polo shirt, and tree spikes, staring up an oak tree with no previous experiance, and no guidence, since sneaker had never used a pair either. About 10 foot up, my arms got tired of holding the tree (no rope), and I decided it was time to come down, but couldn't due to the fact that I couldn't pull the spikes out of the tree. Well to make a long story short, I just let go, and fell to the ground, after hanging there for a split second........Good thing it was only 10 feet and I had been drinking plenty of pain killers (beers) that night! Sneaker got a huge kick out of it!.....dickhead.... Any way back to the topic, I've learned my lesson when it comes to tree spikes, and am no longer using them!

I am sure that spikes will work better when you are not intoxicated.

Gorrilla Loc-on, spikes, GOOD hanging belt and your bow coming up the tree later. The deer will never know what happened.
