Daughter's first deer

Postby mfalkner » Mon Dec 01, 2014 11:26 am

Molly got her first deer on Thanksgiving, using some .308 managed recoil loads courtesy of DutchDog. Perfect shot on the shoulder groundrolled this little doe, those be some bad loads my friend!

Molly's 21 and never wanted to hunt until last year. Looking forward to getting her in a duck blind soon. Oh, and she's stone cold now, ready to shoot some more!

It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Bruce, daddy's walking around w/ a puffed up gut from eating too much fresh backstrap!

Dutch - she said she never felt the recoil at all. Of course, being on a deer vs. a target helps but she was shooting my Abolt micro hunter (I'm 5'8 and this rifle fits me to a tee) which weighs under 8 lbs loaded w/ scope. With 150 grain Hornady SST's, I notice the recoil a little. I shot a yote with your loads and it was like a 22 mag. This wasn't a big deer, but it hit the ground like a sack of feed, never moved.

So, I would not hesitate at all to use these loads with a younger kid or someone recoil sensitive. A 243 handi rifle will kick as much or more.
