Double Drop Buck-Updated Article

Postby WilM88 » Wed Oct 08, 2014 11:23 am

After three years of pictures, passing him and some earlier encounters his run is over with. It was a long 22 hours from shot to recovery but what a relief, finally finding him. My best buck to date.

Wow! That's a stud!
So, let's hear the story. Is that a exit wound on his neck?

I will have to post full story later… No, I did not sleep that night, I was sick about it. It was an emotionally draining night and day that ended with a waist deep wade into cattle pond to identify a deer that from the bank was unidentifiable (deers' head was under water in the mud) which ultimately ended up being him after a tug on the rear leg (which was leg nearest to me upon getting to him) and seeing tines emerge, followed by a frantic, ecstatic lunge for his rack, capped of by the lifting of a deer I had become attached to back in 2012 and in an instant I went from deep dark gloom, to the highest of highs accompanied by a smile that spread from here to Texas.

that is a great Buck. ever cooler that you have passed him for years and finally took him.

I see an interesting characteristic I have began to notice about older deer - you can tell that their brow tines as they get older seem to grow further up the beam than they do when they are younger - you can see it in this deer's photos from past years.
