The 6.8 SPC has been around about 5 years now, but hasn't really made a big splash.. I finally found a Contender barrel chambered for it and order some ammo.. It is a 27 Caliber same as the the 270 Win but with much less recoil..
Here is a comparison to other youth rounds.
Left to Right
.223 - 64 Grain Power point running about 3,000 FPS
6.8 SPC - 120 Grain SST running about 2,500 FPS
.243 - 85 Grain BTSP running about 3200 FPS
7mm-08 - 120 Grain Pro Hunter running about 2900 FPS
Once I get to reloading this round I should be able to get a .27 Caliber 100 grain bullet to easily run 2800 FPS.. It ought to make a great youth round to fill the gap between the .223 and .243..

Re: New Youth Cartridge
I agree. Designed for relatively short barrels and is great for kids. I set up an encore in 6.8 for my son. 16 inch MGM barrel with a youth stock. I have him shooting 85 gr Barnes at 2800-2900. It is deadly. He's killed 2 mature 200+ lb bucks plus doe and smaller bucks and none have gone more than 75 yds. Most are DRT. Never lost one.

Re: New Youth Cartridge
My 6y/o son loves the 6.8spc. We are also shooting the 120gr SST. Very accurate and as mentioned, no more felt recoil than a 223/5.56. Great caliber!
