Youth harvest thread 2013-2014
If your youth is lucky enough to harvest a deer this season, post up some pix!!
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Re: Youth harvest thread
My Nephew Jacob.. This wasn't his first deer, he killed his first one at age 8.. But this is his first since then. It has been a disappointing few years for him. Not seeing many, no shots a so on.. This was the first year for him to hunt by himself.. Doe walked out and he got nervous and made a bad shot. We gave her an hour and tracked her in the dark for over a 100 yards and jumped her twice.. We backed out and headed to camp.. I had to come home, but he and his dad went back this morning.. They tracked her again and jumped her 3 times over about another 200 yards through a 6 year old cutover.. He never gave up.. On hands and knees looking for spots of blood they finally snuck up quietly enough to get a visual on her and and even though they couldn't tell what part of the body they could see they were able to get a shot.. The only brought a pistol because the brush was so thick it was almost impossible to get a rifle in there. On the last shot they were able to get another shot in her to pin her down and he walked over to her and had to cut her throat.. It wasn't a pretty but he stuck with it after most hunters would have given up the chase.. He worked hard and it was a hard lesson for him..

Re: Youth harvest thread
Smiles mean a lot. My 8yr old has not expressed an interest in hunting, then all of a sudden he wants to go all of the time. First time out, we topped a hill and this little doe was in the plot. We eased to about 100yds and he hammered her. perfect shot behind the shoulder, came out right in front of hind leg and brought guts with it. 95 grain XP3 did a number.
He was not nearly as happy about the "War Paint".
My 10 year old finally got on the board. I moved him up to the 270 this year and he is pumped.
Now the pressure is off ol' dad. Now gotta get some horns.

I'll let the picture do the talking but yesterday afternoon's hunt was what a father dreams of the moment he first holds his infant son in his arms. He thanked me over and over and we prayed after finding the deer but all I could tell him was, "No son, thank you..."
