Long range revisited

Postby Dutch Dog » Fri Nov 08, 2013 5:28 pm

Took a trip down to the range again today, I wanted to do a little sighting in as well as try my hand at some long range stuff again. Shot another good group (for me), and all groups were less than 8" at 600 yards. I have GOT to get me a Jewell trigger and a higher power scope, I feel these 2 things are holding up some really good groups.

Have any of y'all ever tried the Berger VLD 168 gr bullets? These are Sierra Match King's and are doing pretty good, just heard good things about Bergers.

That is exciting. I can't remember what cal you have. The .284 168VLD are awesome. They are my go to bullet for my 280AI. The .308 168VLD is a good bullet but in .308 you have to get to the 210 VLD before you get a G7 BC that is greater than the .284 168. As you well know a 210 from a .308 whinny is going to be poking. That and the barrel twist probably won't be appropriate. Be careful with the VLD's, they will drive you mad fooling with the seating dept. Mostly they like to .02 thou in the lands to .04 off. I did have a 7 mag that liked the 180's .08 tho off. Strange gun.
