Finally got the monkey off my back...

Postby chevy01234 » Mon Oct 21, 2013 9:22 am

Been hunting probably 10 times this year so far, seen deer every time but 2 but either too far or to small, or too late to tell what it was. Yesterday evening I went out to the farm to sit in my "Raccoon Stand", i've hunted that particular stand for about 12 years now and killed a bunch of deer out of it. Had this young doe walk down the trail about 5:30 at a brisk pace, not giving me much time to get ready for a shot. She browsed on some acorns and headed towards the greenfield about 100 yds away. About 30 minutes later, a group of three bucks walked about 20 yards from my stand, all three will be great deer next year. The lead buck might get shot if he gives me a little more time to think about it and look him over. Those three walked by and apparently when they met up with the doe, she didn't want to stick around them so she started trotting back toward me/the trail she walked down. There was another deer walking toward her and when they stopped to stare each other down, I shot her. She ran maybe 40 yards and I heard her crash. She isn't a huge doe, but we are trying to thin out some does so mission accomplished, and those backstraps are going to be awesome ha!
