Bow season and wearing hunter orange

Postby COONDOG » Wed Sep 25, 2013 10:25 am

Just curious if any of you guys have wore hunter orange in the past walking in and out of the woods
or if anybody will start wearing orange this year with all of the crossbow shooters in the woods? And
does anybody think the state will eventually make hunter orange mandatory during bow season? I'm
thinking with these crossbows supposedly reaching 100 yards I will be sporting my orange vest
to and from the stand.

Where are these hundred yard crossbows you speak of? They aren't anymore of a longrange weapon than a standard compound bow.

To answer your question, yep, I'll be wearing Orange to/from the stand.

To many people with their new fangled toy ready to send a bolt through the air for me to do otherwise (enjoyed public bow hunting, will see how this new fad/Bull sheet works out).

As far as the 100 yard shot? I foresee a lot of new so called archers testing the limits!
If I don't do it, I ain't gettin nun.......So i'm doing it

I have heard of people shooting 80 yards with them using Nikon BDC scopes.

I don't think the average hunter that goes out and buys an average crossbow setup for hunting in an effort to get out in the woods earlier in archery season is gonna be proficient beyond normal compound range...but that doesn't mean some of them won't feel like they are and try (I know they will without a shadow of a doubt, but that's here nor there and somebody will most certainly wanna "rip up" that opinion)...so I guess decide if you are comfortable with how often they could actually hit you assuming they might try! :D

Shooting a target in the open is much different than shooting a deer in the woods at 75 yards. I just don't think I would ever try that with any type of bow. Guess it is not much different than people buying a 3 1/2 shotgun a $60 choke and shells that are $6 each and shooting 80 yards at a turkey.
