2014 Hunting club thread

Postby Dutch Dog » Tue Aug 20, 2013 8:23 am

Seems like this time of year folks start trying to find a club to get into, or have spots to fill in clubs. If you have a club with openings please post your info on here, and if you are looking to join a club please look here for clubs to join instead of having the barrage of posts with your particular interests.

Some info about clubs that would be helpful are the following:
Location
Price
How many acres
How many members
Guests allowed
Camp facilities: bunkhouse, electricity, running water, kitchen, skinning rack, meat cooler
Game available to hunt in addition to deer (hogs, turkey, ducks etc)
Management program
Food plots
Does your club run dogs
Timber: Hardwoods, pines (old growth, newly planted), cutover, bottomland that could be prone to flooding
Type property: Leased from individuals, club owned, leased from timber companies, National Forest property
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Sorry about that, it's been a bit chaotic and I'm just now catching up with myself. Here is some more info.

Calhoun County 3200 acresnd, 20 members, $1000 dues

Our property is approximately 20 miles south of Oxford near Banner, MS and comprises 3,169 acres of various stages of timber growth from 1 to 20 year old planted pines (approximately 600 acres are pines 4 yrs old and less). The property also appear to have approximately 30% mixed hardwood coverage scattered throughout. This property is very diverse! The terrain is predominantly rolling hills of +/- 100 ft elevation changes. With these hills some of the young pine sections offer visibility in excess of 500 yards. A large portion of the semi-mature pines have been thinned also providing good visibility along with excellent soft mast growth. We have a beaver pond on the northern section of the property that will likely make a good duck pond (7 acres). There is another semi-dry marsh (4 acres) toward the center of the property that we spooked a wild hog out of during one of our visits. There are three additional wet/dry marshes on the property as well. The western portion of the property is the headwaters for the beginning of Smith Creek that eventually flows into Otoucalofa Creek and there are several more smaller creeks that are on property. We also have a gas pipeline cutting through the southern portion of the property that will also provide a good hunting opportunity will plenty of visibility. Dues are $1000 a year, no facilities yet, working to get a temporary camp up before season and hopefully something more permanent soon thereafter.

Quick question for the duck hunters, how likely is this beaver pond to have wood ducks and what can we do to improve the habitat for them?

Thanks
Tim

Here is a stupid question from a non duck smart person. I was on the property today and saw 3 mallard hens swimming along. Shouldn't those suckers have packed their bags and went north unless they were tame? Weird place for tame ducks to be hanging out, didn't see any little ones either.

Thank you JS, those hens had me scratching my head. Hope we do have some good deer, did see one in velvet this weekend and was impressed now if I can just get him on camera.
