This discussion brings up an interesting point. So how many ducks are enough? A cajillion? So say the season went to mid February in the lower flyway and some didn't pair back up. Again how many is enough? Thoughts?

We are all happy to see a few once the season begins certainly, and recently the birds have been thin until mid January. Being allowed to hunt ducks and then actually having ducks around are 2 different things. When they finally show, and we all know what that means, it takes the monkey off your back if you happen to miss a bird or two. If you choke in early season it really makes you sick because it may be weeks before you get another opportunity. When some of the main migrating body is around it is a little easier to be a real sportsman about things, like watching a few pitch in and leave. As far as how many are enough, well there are never enough hanging on the shoulder but I do think that being in the field when the real travelers are moving through adds more to the sport than anything whether you kill any or not. Just gives you a real fighting chance as well as the opportunity to watch what we call "the big show."
Simply, the farther south the later the dates should be for the season, they know that.
just thinking out loud.

It's more ducks around here than I've seen since the late '90s. Most are dry feeding.

Well, all the corn piles put out in MO by Delta Waterfowl, DU, DSCI, SPCA, HSUS, NAACP, Rainbow Push Coalition, the Communist Party, and ISIS must be depleted! I also heard the Corps is gonna drain Arkabutla, Grenada, and Sardis so the ducks will have more water to spread out next year! Some body call Al Sharpton or Thad Cochran!

its just like the snapper season on the coast, open it up in the summer so you have to run out 10-30 miles to catch them when in the winter they are almost on the beach. Just doesn't seem like a lot of common sense is being applied to the season dates. whether there are a million birds or not.
