We went to MO on a hunt a few years ago and the guide took us over to a nearby refuge that was over 10,000 acres of flooded habitat. He said that 1/10 of every penny spent in MO goes to conservation. I did not know that. He said the state NEVER lets the refuge water freeze up, even after their season ends. When it gets cold enough to freeze they turn the pumps on. His exact words were "why would we let this freeze up so they will head south to you guys". I know some people are so deep in Ducks Unlimited's butt that they will never believe it, but they hurt the hunting in the south, just as much as they help the hunting in the north. They flood an unthinkable number of acres that never get hunted and they dont allow it to freeze up.
