JV Wilson leather duck strap

Postby Wingman » Mon Jan 19, 2015 4:50 pm

Y'all seen these? Made in Bellefontaine. I saw one last weekend and it looks like a well-made strap.

Yea, saw one at Smith and Co in Greenwood. It is apparently the grandson of the original saddle maker. They have a FB page.
Stuff looks pretty fair.

Are those some sort of studs on the underside of the duck strap?

I think those are nails where the strap is hanging on a wall in this picture.

My only thing with them is those copper rivits they use that look like an expanded hollow point. Looks like it would hang / rip something.

Two of the guys I hunt with have Otis straps. Look great. I'm about to order myself one. Had a guy out of Lexington make my brother one modeled after the Otis straps and it turned out great until the stamping of his name and it didn't turn out the way I wanted it at all. Now I just wish I would've ordered the Otis!

Too bad the duck strap company went outa business. Mine is 6 years old and held thousands of ducks and still going strong.

My "the duck stap" was great until two of the Chicago screws backed out over time without me noticing and let go when wading across a beaver pond. I need to take it to a leather shop and get it repaired.

JV Wilson leather duck strap

Postby RedEyed Duck » Sun Feb 08, 2015 11:39 pm

I have two of the old "duck straps" from the guy that would send you the strap and you didn't pay until it arrived with the invoice. One of mine has a clip on it and the other is carried over the shoulder. They are both still in great shape and several years old.
I am interested in purchasing duck calls that were made by Mike McLemore. I am a family member and they have a sentimental value.

That guy was great. Then he sold the company, and they drove it into the ground.
