Quick update from my neck of the woods

Postby jkmjr » Sat Jan 10, 2015 7:21 pm

A couple of the guys I hunt with have been hunting since Thursday in and around Leflore Co. Everything they hunted was frozen. Today was the first morning they were able to break some ice and actually hunt. They were in the blind from daylight until 4pm. One mallard, one pintail, five shovelers. They killed everything that came in. Very few ducks were seen in the area. Hopefully, they are only another day or two showing up. I am off for 12 days beginning Monday and I sure hope they show. I bet you guys hunting on the river are doing well. I have been hoping for cold weather and now needing a little warm weather to thaw. Ain't duck hunting great. Good luck.

Same here.. Hunted 5 of last 6 days, got good holes and only killed 6 ducks. They aren't here and I don't understand it. Prolly hanging around the Mississippi waiting on the thaw. Now it's back to work.

No need in thawing or breaking ice. We watched them pile into a completely frozen field all day yesterday and just sit on the ice after we fought the ice and kept a hole open and scratched out 5 ducks. Then also saw this field down the road from us on the way out. It's all about being where they want to be.

Sun up to 4pm is 8 hours in a blind... Your friends are either crazy or have a bad home life to go back to. I would be stiffer than a 2x4.

I sat from sun up until 4pm once. Only killed 106 birds. Wasn't really worth it....

x2 teul

Hell last week we went to South La got up at 3am drove a mud boat up into a 3" deep sand/mud flat watched the water roll out on us at 4 am. Shooting light came we shot a couple teal on the pass and 4 geese then set there from 7-12 without firing a dam shot it was 2:30pm before the tide and the ducks came back. We finished up a 6 man limit at 4:30 pm. Then drove out in what was bare mud&sand was 3' deep. You talking about some dam good stories it was some good ones told between 3am till 4pm in a 18 foot boat setting in the mud! LOL

Birds aren't here. Doesn't make any sense.

If you don't have birds on your lease now, find a new lease.

I can't find anyone that is not killing birds right now

I agree with Josh and Chip.

It really helps if you can be out there everyday to 'keep-up with the birds' and see what they do from day to day.....primarily because conditions change pretty quickly around ice events.

I love this time of year.
