Lots of Wood ducks

Postby JacksonBounds » Wed Dec 03, 2014 6:17 pm

I'm hunting in the North Delta in a partially flooded field of standing beans. There are more wood ducks in there than there have ever been in the 15 years I have hunted it. Anyone else seeing/killing more woodies than normal?

We've killed wood ducks in the fields almost every hunt so far. Never like this before here.

Yes we have shot a fair # of wood ducks so far along with mallard and gadwall. Interesting thing about the wood ducks this year is they are not just flying right at daylight/dark, but are still flying around at 8:00.
Are we gonna get wet?

In our case, we're not seeing the proportion of wood ducks to other ducks that we usually have in the past (this time of the season).

Anybody ever got into a woodie migration flight? I was in the Scatters about 12-13 years ago and after lunch woodies started zipping through the woods by the hundreds. So close we could almost grab em, and it kept on for almost an hour. Before video, but it was so cool we didn't even shoot any.

We had been seeing lots of wood ducks too. I went yesterday and they have left the country along with most other ducks as well :(
I am interested in purchasing duck calls that were made by Mike McLemore. I am a family member and they have a sentimental value.
