Those in the know: New Old Style Daisy Cutters- True?

Postby greenheadgrimreaper » Wed Jul 23, 2014 12:23 pm

Do you have experience with them? The ad in Mack's says they have the exact same guts as the old DC.

In terms of exact: Are they "pretty-dadgumb-close-exact" or are they "exact"?

Exact as in: The same guts and tone board that my 2004 DC had (that I dropped and broke the insert, and still take it out and pay remembrance to on occasion).

If I order this $150 duck call, when it comes in, will I blow it and say, " Hey...now that is exact."?

They sold out within 24 hrs of being posted on the Mack's website. They never made it to the store and were sold on a backorder basis. RNT lost the original program for the mill in 2003 that was used to cut the DC inserts. I personally wouldn't have bought one unless trying it first. John tweaked the toneboard in '02 or '03. Lost some rasp and became more squeaky. Basically started making the call more user friendly so any novice caller would be able to blow it. It may have been similar in tone, but I honestly doubt is was the 2000-01 toneboard, which I preferred over the rest.

Welp, that solves that.

Back to whispering sweet nothings to my barrel.

They only made 150 I believe. The word of it spread like wildlife on the duck call exchange and hardcore waterfowler pages on facebook, and it was a done deal.

From what I understand this tone board is supposed to be a replica of the full scroll DC's. As most know that is the last "old" tone board before they turned them into what they are now. However, I don't think there has been a definitive answer as to whether they mapped an old tone board and cut these identical to it or just got them close. I have sent a few newer DC's back to Butch and he can bore them out, tune them heavy, and get them really close to an old one. Reading the description makes you think this is a replica tone board. They have already done this once with the Cabela's DC's two years ago. They made 250 of these and I bought one to see what's up. I'm sure they will pop up immediately for sale at ridiculous prices.

Jeez I have two of the full scroll ones. I may need part with one if folks are so infatuated with them

I got one for the simple fact that I will probably sell it or put it up, wait and then sell it.

Here is what I figure. They will make this 200 to complete the order. Theennnnnnnnn make unlimited numbers like that blackout daisy cutter, and call it a collectors call. All about that cash.

If you have mint / never been hunted half / full scroll you can get those prices. If it has been hunted they are still going from anywhere between 300-400 easy. If it is signed added another 50-100 to it.

I find it amusing to say the least but someone got it started that scroll brings in ducks from the heavens, and the operator doesn't matter.

There was a thing going on at the refuge forums where people were posting sounds files of their daisy cutters. I would say 70% sounded like they were blowing a grunt call. One guy posted a sound file of a T1 lares, and didn't say anything for awhile. People started cumming over it. He finally fessed up and said it was a lares.

I bought that smoke full scroll on ebay about 5 years ago for $80. I sold it to Eric on another waterfowl forum about 2 years ago for $225. And I thought I sold the 15 old cutters I had when the market was as high as it would EVER get...........
