new proposed limits for south america

Postby ScottyLee » Tue May 26, 2015 12:27 pm

in an effort to generate some conversation around here:

Do the now restricted limits (not sure when they go into effect), put a damper on the south America trips as far as clients go? I think it does for me somewhat. It at least moves the trip further down the list. Were the duck kills from hunters getting out of hand and hurting the populations? Does everywhere now have limits or is this only a certain select few countries?

I'll believe it when Ramsey Russell says it. Restricted limits would take hundreds of thousands of dollars away from that economy, and that's the last thing that country needs. They'd have to be self reliant on coca fields then.

There are so very few hunters down there, the impact on bird populations, even with high limits, is de minimus. I cannot believe this is serious.

Just to be selfish and because i enjoy it, i wish the resource could handle one or 2 more specs though. I'm just thankful that we have enough shootable number of specs now. That wasnt the case when i was a yonker.

It's being proposed, by outside interests of course, that lead shot be banned.

.

Speaking of outside interests, it's widely accepted among Argentina outfitters that Dutch antis have funded (bribed) their officials for the biologically unjustifiable closure of goose hunting in Argentina. Makes no sense until you come to realize that the Dutch King, a hunter himself, married an Argentine and can steer the conversation at cocktail parties to the bazillions of Argentina geese he's saving instead of the beautiful African lion he shot on safari. Ironically, Netherlands 10 year ban on goose hunting has created one of the best goose hunts on God's Earth - no bag limits, nearly year-round hunting, barnacle geese, english-speaking country, Amsterdam, the list goes on - but strictly under depredation permits because, go figure, there's no actual goose hunting season.

Relative to our American way of doing things, things are done differently around the world. Reconciling our way with theirs is like fitting round pegs into square holes. In every instance, however, it's all politics because it's all about money.
