Best place to watch Baseball in the South?

Postby DUCK-HUNT » Mon Jun 08, 2009 11:11 am

What's up with the ESPN guys talking up UM crowds and this is the best place in the south to watch college baseball. What's up with the dugout cheers and all that BS. Thought I was watching the women's college world series

Just a few facts the ESPN guys obviously overlooked:

The highest single-game attendance for an NCAA Super Regional was at Dudy Noble Field, Polk-Dement Stadium at Mississippi State University. On June 9, 2007, 13,761 watched MSU beat Clemson to send the Bulldogs to the CWS. The second highest was set the day before, 12,620, for a two-day Super Regional record of 26,381. That also represents the highest on-campus total for any Super Regional, either 2- or 3-day. The highest for a 3-day regional and highest for an off-campus facility was set at Zephyr Field, a minor-league park in New Orleans. In 2001, Tulane and LSU battled for 3 games in front of 34,341 fans.

The highest single-game attendance for an NCAA Regional game was also set at Mississippi State; 11,496 watched MSU vs Florida State in May 27, 1990. For total attendance during a Regional series, LSU holds the top 2 spots at 67,938 in 1998 and 66,561 in 1997. MSU holds the next three to round out the top 5--64,723 in 1997, 63,388 in 1989, and 62,191 in 1990. All of those Top 5 regional attendance records were set under the old six-team Regional format.

WE WILL BE BACK... and everyone knows it and UM especially.... thing about it they can't get it done when we are struggling... What's it gonna be like we the cream rises to the top once again?

Those announcers were horrendous. There were over 10,500 at Dudy Noble for one of the SBW games this spring.

The "record" Ole Miss crowds wouldn't make the top 20 in Starkville.....

Mississippi State has all of the top 13 and 21 of the top 23 on-campus crowds in the history of college baseball, including nine crowds over 12,000 and twenty-two over 10,000.

glad it makes you feel better about attendance...man you guys are desperate...digging up old attendance records..Just face reality please, for once...In just 2 years removed from a CWS, how can State be the "Worst", thats finish dead last with a sub .500 overall record?

At the present time you guys are the worst in the conference at 2 of the big 3...Thats baseball and football.

(I know how it feels to be GH22 with all this state smack I've been talking)

I really think the announcers probably were a little confused. They have probably heard about the crowds in MS for college baseball games and the atmosphere and such. Think they often mix up who Mississippi and Mississippi State are. They just assumed they were at the place that has been voted 20+ times by fans, players, coaches, and reporters as the best place to watch or play a college baseball game. What is odd is that ESPN is who has reported this voting all along, so why would there announcers not know it. Either way, I think Bigwater said it best earlier, Polk made all the SEC teams pick it up a notch as far as facilities and their programs are concerned. I am sure compared to most schools in the nation, UM probably has one of the top 10 atmospheres in the nation. LSU, Arkansas, UM, MSU....they all have made a commitment to the baseball programs and the fans that do love to watch. Someone asked earlier why would State fans be concerned with college baseball at this time of the season when the Dogs have been done playing for a month....easy answer, MSU fans love the game, they have pretty good attendence when it is not even the Dogs playing at Dudy Noble (alot will go and watch the other games in a tourny or regional at MSU), they know good baseball when they see it and they respect it. LSU shows the same enthusiasm. Not sure yet if UM is at that stage, but as it becomes more and more the norm, it will happen there as well.

Was at 3 of the top 5 attendance games at DN and probably 1/2 of the others... there is nothing like it. Still get chills thinking about it... especially the shot heard around Mississippi when masters hit the grand slam against Florida State in 1990 in the ninth after being down three runs to send us to OMAHA... game number 11 on the list.. awesome stuff fella's awesome stuff :D

Cohen knows all about it... he was there and will be back :!:

define passed by, is it simply getting to omaha more times than state? Is it holding the attendance record? What would Ole Miss have to do to pass state by?

To me passing by is a present tense situation. I do believe that Ole Miss has passed State by at the present time, and I know it is hard to accept. This is simply the facts. Which brings me to this question...Do you think at the present time and state of each program that it is easier to recruit top notch players at MSU after 2 losing seasons or at Ole Miss?

Yes, we will have the OMAHA thing holding over our heads until we breakthrough and get there. You would think you guys had a national title or at least some success in CWS the way you consider yourself such an historic program. Maroon shades are on and in full effect..I'll take my rosie one's off..

We didn't break your attendance record, thats fine...Why can't you be ok with Ole Miss being another great venue to watch college baseball.

Has UM passed MSU by? NO! What is the criteria that says they have??? We have two back to back bad seasons and the baseball program is in shambles? NO! Is recruiting harder at MSU than it is at UM? NO! Does attendence over two decades show the tradition and history of a program? YES! What would UM have to do in order to say that they have passed MSU by? In my opinion they need to stay on their present course for the next 10-15 years and add a CWS appearence or two in there to boot AS WELL AS MSU staying in the lower ranks of the SEC and not making regional, super regional, or CWS appearences during that same time period...........to pass by means to go around and get in front of right?

Old attendence records? Old attendence records? I see a 2009 date on there, a 2008 date, some 2007 dates. I was there at least 4 of those dates and agree with Duck....nothing touches it. Some of those dates are in March, some in April, alot in May, in June; shows the support of the program right there. Jim Ellis always makes you feel it even if you are not present. I remember stopping the tractor and talking to Dad when Masters hit the HR, man what a day for that guy! Wish I had been there when DuBose went down to the bullpen to warm up for that second game against Washington as well. Man what some memories! Moreland just blowing it by the Clemson hitter in 2007! Alabama being thrown out at the plate the first inning in 1999.

Stitch, wish you could put the record up of those games you listed?
