just got back from da vets.....

Postby goosebruce » Tue Oct 21, 2008 6:38 pm

for an annual for da juice and rowdy.

Da Juice has been on advatix multi hartworm stuff for 6 months. He has been hartworm postive for almost 3 years. He had a breakthru on hartguard, which they didn't pay for because he didn't have 2 negative tests (because I was only testing once a year and he wasn't old enough), or because I didn't have my paperwork right proving which dog which got which prescription, or any of the other crap Ive been told why they won't pay. Anyway he was treated and was still postive. After seeing his sister Scream with her breakthru (that hartguard didnt pay for) get treated 3x before getting clear, my vet and I elected to continue testing juice and not treat again. Mutiple contined postives, until now. 6 months on multi, and hes clear for the first time in almost 3 years (and hes 4 years old). This is in line with what charles and jpaul have experienced with this product, and what many others are hoping for.

Rowdy was hartworm negative. My only hartguard sucess story at this point. I shouldn't ness blame hartguard, as all medicines are having problems. But I'm not buying another box. Ever. I'm done.

Rowdy does have hart problems. I knew this before the visit, as a bunch of ya'll know this is his farewell tour as hes offically retired after this weekend. I made the choice to retire him before the fall grand, when he didnt recover from a lite workout the way he should. Watching and limiting his activity every since his problems in the past are no longer enough, and I wont hurt that dog for anything. He hasnt trained cept for lite duty fooling around since, and only ran the few hunts ness to finish his 1500. Apprently, his hart stops beating at times, and beats erratticaly. EKG and Xrays where fine. My vet is getting a special harness with hartprobes and we're going to do a 24 hour test to determine the pattern and hopefully the answer to it will be loose weight and some medicines... gee something else me and the old man have in common. travis

I don't think you can say it any better than when Mr. Sam talked about retiring Ford..........some wondered why, he's still got a little left? Mr. Sam replied...."That dog's doesn't owe me anything........." Ford is now a comfortable house dog!

good news travis on da juice...sounds like there is something to this as a viable alternative to the treatment!

now about rowdy dog...when we gonna have a retirement party? I can't think of a better reason to have a SF "get together". Maybe uncle steve would let us do part 2...knee boards and all!

Travis,
that is great news on Juice. That's an interesting idea you have that seems like it is worth a shot, I may consider it when my IVmec runs out.

God I hate the thought of Rowdy retired. It seems like yesterday that he and Lacey were just dogs running the opposite way of their handlers in need of "magic dog training elixir". That sure has been one hell of a litter. It is crazy how Rowdy is in retierment, and I am pulling lacey out of retierment to give her a chance at the big time. I have decided she has earned it, were going for it, Master National next year, and the grand. I have never had the time to give her to let her run that stuff as it's just been too much of a time commitment for me. Well, way I figgure it, she doesn't have much time left to still be able to compete on that level. She has been a better dog than I could ever have dreamed of, and I feel she has earned a chance to try. If we blow up, we blow up, but by God as always we will blow up together.

I hate to "hijack" your post, but I know what what I feel for my Lacey Dog, you are the same way with her brother Rowdy. Hope it helps, cause I won't lie, just the thought of retiering Rowdy or Lacey makes me cry. They have been just too good of freinds to us over the years. Had I known this was it this weekend, I'd of come run, in fact if there is still an opening wherever the test is let me know I may still come to see it.

Great news on da Juice.

You and Rowdy have fun this weekend (let him have the bed this time). Chance at 1500, that is almost unbelievable. Glad I got to have the opportunity to see him work and be in the field with him-doubt I get to see another one like that.

If Im not mistaken, you can start puppies at 7 wks on Advantage Multi. They offer 4 different doses for dogs 3-9lbs, 9.1-20lbs, 20.1-55lbs, & 55.1-88lbs. Dogs over 88lbs you would have to mix and match doses for the appropriate rate if I read the sheet right.

??? about the Advantage Multi

Postby Unkljohn » Wed Oct 22, 2008 9:10 am

for the people that are using it.
Are you using it instead of Heartguard or in addition to Heartguard. I won a pack of it at the TN River HT and am considering switching my bunch of heathens over to it.

Instead of

I'm on it right now. Just applied second treatment. She came up light positive for heartworms in September and I'm hoping this knocks it out.

Start using ivomec cattle wormer.

It is the active ingredient in most all heart worm medicines, it is cheaper in the long run as you "buy in bulk" with their size bottle, 1/10 of a CC per 10 pounds of dog weight by mouth monthly (eg, 1CC for a 100lb dog).

thanks guys. Jeff I almost cried when I read your post last night. I couldn't respond. I'm trying to keep from crying now typing this almost a day later....

Everyone loves their pets. Don't care who you are, or what you got. Everyone loves their pets. I won't pretend any of us are special and we love our pets more. Just doesn't seem to make any sense to even think that. But, these dogs are more than that. Rowdy opened an ENTIRE world to me. Jeff your a great example. You where in memphis years before these dogs. We knew each other from ms ducks. But we weren't ness friends. We didn't go places together. Just someone you knew. But these dogs got us in the field together, and we became friends. That day you where so upset and I introduced you to magical dog trainer elixer, neither of us will ever forget. We'll be friends forever. Because of that day. We might go a long time with out talking, even longer without seeing each other, but it doesn't matter. We'll always be friends. I got hundreds of friends, and now thousands of days, just like that. Ive traveled for the first time in my life with this dog, and seen things I would have never seen. In my mind, rowdy did all of that. In my mind, when he retired and wasnt on the truck anymore, that would change. It took me 2 days and finally troy talking to me, to get me out of that mindset. That stuff will never change. The thought of him not running anymore scared me to thinking something would be different. I already came to grips with him dying 4 years ago... I already thought about him being gone. I already had a year of rehab to get him back, even if just part way back. That all seemed like something I should do. But not this... this seemed like quitting.

When I talked to troy, crying, telling him what I had seen and what i had decided, he said one thing to me. Congratulations. He stopped me mid tear with that. He didn't have to explain it. The conversation immedately changed.

I told some folks about retiring, but not most. I can't say why. It was more about timing, than particular people. I hope nobody felt slighted by me talking or not about it, but I am now ok with it and proud Im putting him up on top.

After 8 or 10 days off, it had cooled one afternoon and I decided to run rowdy on a set up we had. Got him off the truck and he killed it so hard, it was unreal. Nez and tprice just watched dumbfounded... and asked, can't you just run him when its cool? A great compliment, but the hardest part of all this. No, you can't. You think you can run a dog only here, or there, but when it comes down to it, its like just sticking it a little way in. I got what I asked for from this dog. I got what I asked God for when he died and came back to life. Ive gotten everything. Now its time to give. Now its time to not hurt him, and let him just hang out.

We're going to Languille this weekend. The place I ran my very first hunt test with my fatdog 10 years ago. Still the only hunt test band I keep, its on my lanyard. They're not even having a party, and for once I think Im ok with that. I kinda just want to get it done. Werid huh? Wudda been nice to go out at home. We got our hr at home on sat night, our ch at home on sat night, wudda been 500 at home on sat night but we decided to break a record and ran an extra test instead, 1000 at home on sat night. The cool thing about a dog that always passes, is you can choose where you hit milestones real easy. First milestone away from home... southern flights first 1500 point dog and retirement all at once. So I guess cf to answer your question, that party has to be at home. It'll be next spring at southern flight. Start stocking up bc powders now bro! travis
