Collar

Postby D. Walker » Sat Dec 25, 2004 11:44 am

The collar is just another tool - not to be just thrown on the dog - there is the process of conditioning the dog first then apply it where needed.

You are correct and dogs differ in the use of one - recommend on getting with a training group - good amatuer - or Pro in your area to teach you how to use one.

Sounds like a good dog and you are having fun.

You are right some people abuse the fact that they can still get at the dog - some people and trainers are that way not all - when you get mad and too that point put the dog up. IMHO

Foundation is so critical with the dogs - now when you get to the point with the CC - and use or transition with the ecollar - using distractions and working with the dog out in a field have the dog sit remote walk away get out to a distance that you feel comfortable and command here if dog responds well greaten the distance - do this after the dog has been through all the training with the collar and understands so you do not run into a bolting problem out in the field especially when you are at a distance.

I agree, if you do not have any experience using a collar get help from a pro-trainer. You may even want to spend a little money and let them CC your dog. When done right it is well worth the $$.

One other thing. How many of you actually test your collars to see what your dog is actually feeling? If you do not, you need to. I did it with mine so I know what they are feeling. My thinking is this(it may be wrong) why would you do something to them and you do not know what it feels like? Yup it hurts like H3LL turned all the way up!!! I'm sure I'll have a few responses telling me how STUPID I am but, I do know what it feels like when I hit the button.

Test - collar

Postby D. Walker » Tue Dec 28, 2004 6:29 pm

Tested one several times - a level six on the palm will just about stop my heart.....some clients have asked the same question and they get to see me demonstrate - I believe if your dog experiences it then you have to know what it feels like.

DA, as I read your last post, my dog is busy licking himself. If I could experience what my dog does, I certainly wouldn't spend much time on here! bwhahahahha. travis

Oh Travis,

Again I would think you should have been a comedian dude.....that would be funny to see you in the dog breeding program - what kinda pups do you think you would throw - now for the licking of himself do you let hi mlick you in the face afterwards...lol
