Any Suggestions?

Postby Back! » Tue Nov 19, 2013 12:06 pm

Skunk 1 BJ 0
I got the skunk smell (97%) off the dog with 3 hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and liquid soap baths. I can't get the smell off the receiver. Called Tri - Tronics and was told to use the same mixture and soak the collar. Not working! The smell is not as strong but still don't want to put it back on BJ. Any ideas?

Fabreeze? Sorry, I got nothing else. I hope I never have to deal with this one, or porcupines.

I've read to rake up a big pile of leaves, get it burning good and hold the item (preferably not a dog or kid) in the smoke. Something about the carbon in the smoke is supposed to help kill the odor. Might work for what you want better than a liquid.

Try all of it. The hydrogen peroxide mixture is what I have had luck with as well. Maybe let it soak overnight if possible.

Thanks for the replies! Soaked the receiver in the hydrogen peroxide mixture for several hours. Even scrubbed it with a brush with the mixture. Poured tomato juice and rinsed, then poured lemon juice and rinsed. The receiver transported in 2 ziplock bags still stinks. Haven't tried the smoke yet. BJ doesn't really smell that bad after wearing
the collar. Just have to keep the collar outside and transporting it is smelly.
GC, porcupines really scare me. There was one in our best duck field in Canada. BJ was not sent after any tipped birds that landed near cover. Took a 4-wheeler instead.
