Chesapeake vs Labrador

Postby Robcat » Fri Nov 14, 2014 1:56 pm

Opinions about why there are so few Chesapeake retrievers seen at tests compared to Labs? I've made a lot of friends on this forum and only one is non Labrador...

tough call................Labs are comfortable and predictable........you can find well bred labs in many places.......those of us that hunt "other" breeds are far and few between.......

All are loyal to thier kind

I'm a Chessie owner from here on out. It's a challenge.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Not everyone loves them for what they are or what they were bred for . I DO , and I believe mine are just as talented as any lab (I have those also) , bloodlines are important just as with all breeds . From personal experience my coyotes are tougher in bad conditions . Mine are far from the typical crap you hear THEY EAT SMALL CHILDREN AND CHEW YOUR ARM OFF just because they're a chessie . They don't need a heavy hand or a 2x4 to train them . Although Fatty does not have a grand title SHE is grand to me HRCH UH with over 40 master passes , QAA with a win running against 40+ labs . She is a sweetheart who never meets a stranger and will run for anyone .

If you want a chessie research the ped. IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE !

I have living proof their just as capable as any breed , Punkin passed a finished test at 8 months got her senior title at 10 months , finished her 1st master at 11 months , went to the 3rd series of a Q at 11 months . Another Fatty pup jamed a derby at 9 months and has a derby 2nd and a jam in a Q and won't be 2 until jan 2015 .

Yes I love chessies , but the question is not are labs better , it's what do you like and are you willing to put in the time .

Oh yea and take a lot of crap .....lol

I have a chessie and I wouldn't take $10,000 for him.

I have a chessie and couldn't be happier with my choice, but as CC said above do your research and decide what YOU will like.

Alan is right!!! I have 7 chessies that have all been pretty good dogs. Two of them (Buddy) and (Annie) were my best dogs.

Why not have a mix? I've got a female that's part lab and part chessie!
She has the hair of a chessie and body structure of a lab. She has been easy to train and smart as any other dog I've had! She is just as laid back and not wild and crazy like most been around at her age.
May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face, and may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.
Cheers, Georgie.
