Willow oak acorn on top, water on bottom.

Leaf #3 is nuttall. Leaf #4 is overcup (all 3 from same branch)

Haha...no, would not want my name on it. There are some plants that have been found and named for local Delta people though. Pretty cool to have your name attached to a species from now on. Has other people noticed this difference in nuttall acorns? Think the farthest north I have seen the elongated ones are at Yazoo NWR. Seems that is about the line. The nuttall acorns in the south Delta and La also have more distinct stripes.

I'm stumped with the following pics. South Humphreys. 20 year old CRP (planted in early 90's when they were planting acorns 3 to a drop. This place has just started putting off acorns in the last 3-4 years). Acorns a little larger and more striped than water oak, but the bark on these younger trees kinda resembles water oak. The leaves are similar to water oak, but more pointed and less lobed. I found several of these and what stood out the most was the heavily striped acorns.

Leaf #5

Leaf #6: from tree right next to above. A little larger version it appears.

I was thinking blackjack as well.

Water oak. The second, larger leaf is a shade leaf or juvenile leaf.
Leaf morphology in water oak is variable, particularly in younger trees.

Definitely not a blackjack.

that's a water oak leaf, black jack is much more shiny and a little larger, that first leaf in your picture looks like a post oak, and second and third leaves are either red or cherry bark oak, i can't quite tell because i'd have to see the tips of the leaves. And for them "pin oaks" I agree, I have the hardest time explaining to customers the difference between a pin and a willow without them thinking I'm trying to be rude haha
