Browning Gold Won't Cycle

Postby duckdr1970 » Sun Dec 19, 2010 10:52 pm

Browning Gold 3" will speed load 1st shell, manual load 2 and 3. Fire shell 1, 2 nd shell hangs up in lower receiver, will not load to the chamber. If you manual eject shell out of chamber, when the 2nd shell tries to chamber it hangs at the feed plate. Shot fine this morning for 10 or so shells then this mess started. Anyone had this problem

might try cleaning the action spring and tube in the stock. (Take the recoil pad off to get to it.)

You would think only one season in dry conditions it would not be acting up like this, it probably hasnt had 4 boxes shot through it :(

is it ejecting the first shell shot? When my recoil spring rusted and gummed up it wouldn't eject the first shell. If it is ejecting first shell, try fine steel wool and gun scrubber on the mag tube and tooth brush and gun scrubber on the inside of the piston....then a very light coat of oil.

Did you buy it new and take it straight to shooting without stripping all of the old cosmoslene(packing grease/oil) off of it?

I use to have that problem until I started breaking it completely down and cleaning it. If I duck hunt with mine I have to break down and clean 7-8 times per season

order both springs from Browning today, clean the hell out of the magazine tube and the but stock tube. Lightly oil and you will be ready to go.

Both springs should be about 20 bucks. Explain the problem to browning you may get them for free. You will have them quick enough and It will solve your problems. You dont have to keep it immaculate unless your springs are shot.

I clean mine every 8-10 hunts with no issues unless its 10 degrees out.

I've cleaned my Gold that carefully once in 3 years. Usually just some gun scrubber, check the gas ports and a drop of oil and I'm good to go. It's no more finicky than my 870.
